Making An Impression

Making An Impression

First impressions are something I find incredibly daunting and chill at the same time. I meet someone for the first time and several thoughts run through my head like: how old are they and will they get my jokes? Am I allowed to make the jokes that I want to? Will they be offended? Do I smell? I probably smell and they don’t like me. Wait what was their name again? I should listen to what they’re saying—yeah, I’m totally awesome at listing to what they’re saying that I can do it with my eyes closed. Wait what are they talking about again?

You probably get the idea; I’m not good at meeting new people. As a result, I end up fumbling my way through social interaction while looking cool as a cucumber.

Wait, what?

Fake it till you make it mentality. Alpha mindset. The grind never stops. Stop resigning yourself to second-rate women, king—oh, who am I kidding. These alpha male podcast runners probably don’t know words as big as “resigning”.

Though, now that I’ve made an impression, I might as well introduce myself.

I am Lunch Lady. I’m not a food blogger, and I’m here to dump my thoughts on the internet for all the world to see!

I’ve been wanting to make a blog for a while now, but my overthinking held me back because of three main reasons:

1. You need to be good at writing to run a blog.

I am a Creative and Professional Writing major. If anything, I should have started a blog when I started my degrees. Starting a blog is also a brilliant way of practicing your writing, and showcasing your writing to potential future employers. Or you could just keep it as a hobby; the pressure to monetise all of your interests is frustrating and could discourage improvement.

2. No one wants to hear what I have to say outside of text messages, academic writing, and short stories.

This is because I built up an expectation for myself that I will only write when I’m wallowing in self-pity. And no one wants to read something as self-scathing as that.

3. I don’t know where to start!

Here. Right here. Blogger has been here since August of 1999. This website has been around as long as I have existed, give or take a few months.

So, what can you expect from me?

Simply put, my thoughts.

Still simply put but slightly longer, my thoughts about writing, language, games I play, my soured relationships, my blooming relationships, a dog I saw on the other side of the street. Literally, anything that I can write about, I will write about. I’m going to treat this as my Tumblr but more grown-up (and I actually make my own posts instead of reblogging every meme I come across).

I hope that you enjoy at least one post I will write in the future (or if you’re reading this in the future, then I hope you enjoy at least one post I’ve written), because if that’s the case then I will have achieved my goal as a writer. I look forward to posting here on Thoughts of Lunch Lady.
